Women's Health Conditions

We treat a variety of general women's health conditions, listed below.

Irregular period: The menstrual cycle is a series of changes a woman's body goes through in preparation for a pregnancy. About once a month, the uterus grows a new lining (endometrium) to get ready for a fertilized egg. When there is no fertilized egg to start a pregnancy, the uterus sheds its lining. This is the monthly menstrual bleeding (also called the menstrual period) that women have from their early teen years until menopause, around age 50. The menstrual cycle is from Day 1 of bleeding to Day 1 of the next time of bleeding. The average cycle is 28 days. Girls usually start having menstrual periods between the ages of 11 and 14.  Women usually start to have fewer periods between ages 39 and 51. Women in their 40s and teens may have cycles that are longer or that change a lot. If you are a teen, your cycles should even out with time.  If you are nearing menopause, your cycles will probably get longer and then will stop.

If you are between 18-43 years old and your period cycle is 7-10 days shorter or longer than the normal cycle of 28 days, we can say that your period is irregular. It is always good for you to have regular periods, even when you are not planning to have a family. If you are planning to start your family sooner, you should check that your period is regular and that you are ovulating every month. There are many factors that can affect your period e.g. low levels of hormones, stress, environmental changes, severe illness, abnormal thyroid function, etc.

Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture can regulate your period in a very natural way. Treatments can balance your hormone levels, relieve stress, regain kidney qi, nourish blood, and get your period back to normal.

Heavy Period: Normal periods are heavy for 1-3 days; however, if your period is heavy for 3-5 day with lots of clotting and shorter cycles, you may need to find out what’s caused it and have acupuncture treatment sooner.

Amenorrhea (No Period): if your period has stopped for 3- 6 months (or no period for over 3 months) without contraceptive pills, you will need treatment to regain your menstrual cycle.

Period Pain (Painful Period): Period pain can happen before, during or after menstruation. Period pain can manifest as backaches, lower abdominal pain, feeling cold in the lower abdomen, having cold limbs, cold sweats, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, etc. Acupuncture is a great relief for all types of period pain.

Spotting: This can occur a few days after ovulation or before or after a period.  It can be treated with acupuncture and Chinese herbs.

Pre-Menstruation Syndrome (PMS): if you have experienced the following symptoms from a few days to two weeks before your period such as mood swings, irritability, anxiety and tension, cravings for sweets or chocolates, increased appetite, fatigue, headaches, water retention, breast tenderness and enlargement, abdominal bloating, weight gain, confusion, forgetfulness, clumsiness, withdrawal, lack of co-ordination, crying spells, etc, you may suffer from PMS. The symptoms can affect your daily life, even causing tension in relationships. Why do you have to suffer? Try acupuncture and Chinese herbs to improve your quality of life.

Menopause symptoms: The most common menopause symptoms are

  • Changes in periods: One of the first signs may be a change in a woman’s periods during the premenopausal period.
  • Hot flashes: A hot flash is a sudden feeling of heat in the upper part or all of your body.  Most flashes last between 30 seconds and 5 minutes, and can occur 2-20 times per day.
  • Heavy sweating and cold shivering: These can occur and can be spontaneous or take the form of night sweats.
  • Mood changes: Irritability, easy to angry, hot temper, agitation, crying, anxiety, depression, etc.
  • Sleep problems:  Insomnia, dreaming, palpitations.
  • Sex Drive Change: Lower sex drive, dry vagina that makes sexual intercourse painful.
  • Other signs and symptoms: Pain or weakness of lumbar region and knee joints, poor memory, ear ringing, dizziness, vertigo, blurred vision, dry, thin or itchy skin,  joint and muscle stiffness and pain.  With age, waists enlarge, muscle mass is lost, and fat tissue may increase.  Heart disease risk may increase due to age-related increases in weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.

The principles of Chinese acupuncture and herbal treatment for menopause symptoms are restoration and maintenance of the balance of yin and yang of the internal organs (include qi, blood, and essence, etc), restoration of the normal function of Chong and Ren channels, regulation of functions of the endocrine and immune system, calming of the mind and spirit to relieve all symptoms in a natural way without side effects.

Prolapse of Uterine: Uterine prolapse occurs when the womb (uterus) drops down and presses into the vaginal area. Muscle weakness or relaxation may allow your uterus to sag or come completely out of your body in various stages:

  • First degree: The cervix droops into the vagina.
  • Second degree: The cervix drops to the level just inside the opening of the vagina.
  • Third degree: The cervix is outside the vagina.
  • Fourth degree: The entire uterus is outside the vagina. This condition is also called procidentia. This is caused by weakness in all of the supporting muscles.
